Getting the Most from School Based Therapy Services
We've learned a few things over the years about providing school-based therapy services. Most importantly, it's about the children. Our goal is and will always remain to help children succeed and enjoy the activities of childhood no matter their ability level. To achieve this goal, here are a few things we've learned when it comes to providing QUALITY school-based therapy services...
- Speak with parents and teachers often. Communication is crucial to achieving goals with a team approach.
- Incorporate treatment strategies into the daily classroom schedule. Many children can not afford to miss academic portions of their school day and for younger children, this encourages socialization with peers.
- Model and demonstrate recommended strategies to be carried out. Teachers and Parents want to learn and we have the tools they need to help their students/children.
- Plan and be consistent in scheduling. Consistency and repetition is a key component to achieving set goals and mastering objectives.
- Educate Teachers and Parents. This includes providing recommendations, modifications, equipment, resources, and appropriate referrals if necessary.
You see, it's really SIMPLE! Make sure if you are providing school-based therapy services that your families, your students, and the school staff are receiving QUALITY services.
