The Power of Peers

The Power of Peers

Kids love watching other kids play. Just take a look at YouTube channels that feature kids playing with toys that have millions of views OR watch your children interact with other children. They usually spend a good amount of time observing each other before interacting.

Here are a few tips on how to seek out opportunities for social interaction for your child:

- Don’t underestimate the power of social interaction for your child with other children. The payoff for trying new skills, exploring new ways to look at the world, and see the world from another child’s perspective is something that we can give our children by providing opportunities for social interaction with other children.

- Seek out play times with other children for your child. It may take a little extra work on your part however the pay off is great. Research local public libraries that offer story time for younger children, find your nearest city park or playground, or get involved in a church or civic organization that provides opportunities for children and families.

It's magical to watch a child watch another child playing. You’ll be amazed at the power of peers.
